Blog Deleted. Beware and Back-up!

I am posting a letter that Gautami sent out, just so you all are aware of what could happen to your blog too. I am now going to back up all my stuff. I hope Gautami can find her blog again, and recover the files.

Hello friends,

As of now my blog http://readingandmorereading.blogspot.com has been deleted without any information or intimation. I am in some kind of shock. As all of you know, our blogs are our tiny worlds, our family. And loss of a book blog is like cutting of the intellect side.

I have lost 650 posts. Out of which more than half were book reviews. Starting from scratch seems like a burden. But I will do that if I am unable to retrieve it in a couple of days.

I was thinking of having a mirror blog for my book review blog like I have for my poetry blog but before I got around it, it was deleted. Why/how, I can't answer it.

I have gone to the help forum but I don't know if they will help me. As I see it, lots of blog have been deleted over the weekend.

King Rat did send me a website for searching and retrieving. I am still trying to get around it without much success.

Meanwhile I need your support love and lot more.

AND ALSO THAT TO WARN OTHER BLOGGERS TO HAVE BACKUPS OF SOME KIND.

I will leave messages on my poetry blog. Please do visit me there:

http://firmlyrooted.blogspot.com

You can also direct people there

Thanks,
Gautami

Wow, that really sucks! (I'm backing up my blog as I type this!) Thanks for the warning and I really hope Gautami can manage to retrieve her blog!

OMG That's terrible! I don't even know how to back mine up.

Gautami ~ Your blog came up with a warning on mine (drey's library) as having malware. And Firmly Rooted also shows as linking to a site (goodcounter.org) that has malware. That might be why it's gone? Hopefully this can be fixed & you can get it back... ((hugs))

forgot to add - both warnings showed up Google's chrome browser.

Thanks for posting this, Bethany! I can read my posts on my reader. I think the only good thing I did was to subscribe to my own blog! That means I can retrieve a lot of my own posts to another blog which I created a little while back. Book reviews are prefered and then I will see which other posts I wish to import.

Meanwhile I am hoping my blog will come back to me.

I am glad I got back-up for my poetry blog. I can't see my creative post go down the drain!

*stomach churns*

This would seriously kill me. I would abandon blogging altogether.

Yes, how do you go about backing up a blog? I would like to do that but I have no idea how!

Callista and Alea, since you both have Blogger blogs, I know the answer to your question. Go into "Settings" and click on "Export blog" at the top of the page. It's that easy!

Avis- Thanks! Of course they have to put it right next to the delete blog button! Ah!

This is too sad. I'm so sorry. Blogs are like family. Thank you for warning us.

Thanks for posting this and I am so sorry for Gautami! We would all feel the same way if we lost our blogs. I hope that you can find a way to retrieve your postings and reviews. I will be backing up my blog to prevent this and thanks for letting us all know.

One more thing, did you have a problem with the spammer named Ed? I was hit by him with posts in chinese. I wonder if you don't delete his posts if they have viruses in them that could damage our blogs? I've had to add full moderator control over my comments as he got through even with the word verification up.

I am a little late to the discussion, but just wanted to chip in and give my two cents worth on the lose of Gautami blog posts..

I did a post on this a few months ago and it got a bit long winded and eventually we all went off post with the discussion.

http://erotichorizon.blogspot.com/2009/02/bloggers-blogspot-follower-and-backing.html

There's still enough comment there for anyone to read the gist of what the conversation is about...

Gautami - I do believe in back up - i have a blogspot as my main account, and a Wordpress as my online backup.

Before i started blogging anyhow, i was told about Windows Live writer. Its a neat little software that you write your post into and upload to your blog.. It's quick, flexible, more manageable that using the actual blog post itself and the beauty of this is that it saves everything you have ever post onto your hard drive.

I have never posted directly into blogspot, and i probably never will - don't see the need to. for that matter, i have never posted directly into WordPress either, i use the Windows Live writer.

I hope all is not lost, at least it doesn't sound like it is. Looks like you have been highjacked.

I'll check back constantly to see how you are fairing out..
