Booking Through Thrusday!!! ROMEO & JULIET

Q:How about a chance to play editor-in-chief? Fill in the blanks:

__________ would have been a much better book if ______________________.

A: Romeo and Juliet would have been a much better book (play) if Shakespere would have allowed them to live at the end, and have children and brought the Motagues and the Capulets to live in peace and harmony. I know it is a more dramatic finish the other way...but come on, I would let them live.

True! However, the story totally disintegrates! Who would read it? We all wish for happy endings but read tragic stuff!

I loved your answer, though!

Oh yes, every time I see this play I get to the end of act three and think oh this time, this time, please.

I said the same thing! I doubt the story would be as enduring if they had lived, but still... I'd pay to see a version with a reworked happily-ever-after ending. =D

Such a sad story. And yet, would it have been the same if they had lived? Who knows?

Nice answer and Happy Thursday!

I haven't read this in years. Great, another TBR. :)

Happy Thursday!

Everybody loves happy endings, but would Romeo and Juliet have been this famous if they had lived? I doubt it.

Ha! That's always a tough one for me, the stories where you wish the characters could have happiness, but tragedy is just the right ending.

* gautami- yes, i know...but i just thought it would be interesting to think about. you are right though.

*table talk-yay! I feel that way too.

* jennifer- I would totaly pay to go see a "Romeo & Juliet: in peace and harmony" haha...we should dream that one up!

*stephanie-nope. it wouldn't be the same, and it probably wouldn't have made it so big. so right.

*amy- thank you!

*nithin- no. but it was worth a try for BTT right?! heheheee...

*heather- yes. i know, and you are right. I thought it would be funny to do this one, and get everyones reactions to changing a classic. But you are absolutely right.

thank you all for visiting!!!

Oh, good answer! I adore tragic love stories, it's emotional masochism, but who doesn't wish this, if they're being honest?

Of course, they would have discovered they had nothing in common and are too young, and only love the dramamama. But still that would have been preferable to the bloodbath at the end. Great answer!

true, and maybe with a more realistic plot I might have enjoyed it a bit. I mean they can overcome some obstacles and face some hurdles, but do they have to kill themselves? I can't stand that story.

Okay, yes, you're right, I think I would like that to be changed. I didn't really give an answer because I couldn't think of any books that I would change something on (I can only remember 3 or 4 books back). :-)

True, but it still makes a good bittersweet love story, isn't it? ;)

Hmmm...rewriting Shakespeare? :) I'm noticing this other "trish" everywhere...wondering if I should change my name! Ha ha!

Nah. Happily Ever After is overrated.

bethany (dreadlock girl) said...

*a- that is the way i feel exactly!

*chris- yes, preferable, but I understand what you are saying.

*raidergirl3- yes, well I can stand it. I just thought it would be fun to switch things up a bit!

*trish- yes, i don't think mine was a popular switch up though!!

*melody- yes, of course!

*trish- just for fun,I think there should be a knock-off...and it could even be a comedy with steve martin or something...i don't know.

*Susan- is it!?!!? huh.

On thinking about this, perhaps that's one of the reasons I'm not a writer. I couldn't kill my characters off, whether it be Romeo and Juliet, Dumbledore, the girl from My Sister's Keeper. Guess I'll leave writing to the mofessionals. ;-)
