BTT: Couples

Monica suggested this one:

Got this idea from Literary Feline during her recent contest:

“Name a favorite literary couple and tell me why they are a favorite. If you cannot choose just one, that is okay too. Name as many as you like–sometimes narrowing down a list can be extremely difficult and painful. Or maybe that’s just me.”

I will pick a few, and to me couple just means two, not a romantic couple:

Franny and Zooey in Franny and Zooey by Salinger- they are stunning! eccentric, confused, confusing and still both are written with such beauty.

Hazel and Fiver in Watership Down- A true portrayal of friendships ups and downs, trust, courage and love all shown by two rabbits...amazing.

The Wednesday sisters- yep them all...how could I take two away from the rest!?! This will be on my top five books this year, I just finished it and can't get over the emotion, the love, and the closeness that grows through pain to tie the bonds tighter.

I chose a romantic couple.

I loved Franny and Zooey too. I waited about thirty years hoping Salinger would write more about them before I gave up. lol

I chose a married couple :) I have not heard of any of the ones you listed.

Good idea! I went with the romance!

The Wednesday Sisters is in my TBR pile and you just made me want to move it closer to the top.

Bethany, I haven't read any of the three books you mention, but now I am tempted to check them out!

Friendship couples open up another long list of possibilities. I haven't read those but have wanted to read Watership Down.

I automatically thought of romance, too. But you're right about other pairings being memorable. Right off the top of my head, I now think of Lenny and George from Of Mice and Men.

Great post!

I haven't read any of those, but Franny & Zooey has been on my TBRs forever, and I think I may have to add The Wednesday Sisters after reading so many glowing reviews. I picked a few couples, but more because of what they represent than because of their romantic stories.

I'm going to add The Wenesday Sisters to my list - thank god I'm from a family who love giving books as gifts:) As far as friendly couples go, I'd have to list Ron and Harry from the Harry Potter books.

Yes--someone else who didn't stick with romance!
