what's wrong with me?! HELP!!

http://images.barnesandnoble.com/images/26910000/26914955.JPG

Okay, I need some help from you all...I am reading The Gargoyle, and I am horrified, it is not only vulgar and dark, it is plain yuck. It feels like the language and pace is too intense (choppy and too in-your-face). It seems there is a need for a constant stream of high risk people, (porn stars, people who pawn their daughters bodies to the highest bidder, so that they can buy Chrystal meth) in order to keep the attention span of a modern day reader.

I have just seen some of your reviews on this book and you ALL love it!! What am I missing. I haven't quit a book this year (and I have read 54 books so far) but this is probably going to be the one that I will choose to not finish. However I am willing to give it another try if you all tell me that something gets better, if things change from being so choppy, and filled with gore. I guess I feel it is overwhelmed with sarcasm as well. I just watched the trailer and then I wonder if there are other stories in this book that I would like and just the first is like this.

Can anyone help me please???

Here is the trailer for it anyway:

My copy has got a completely differnt cover, very black, with black edged pages
Hope it gets better soon x

I don't know. I've read very mixed reviews about this one and I can't decide if I dare try it. Just yesterday my English teacher friend raved about it as her favorite summer read, but I am a bit leery.
People who like it seem to love it, and I'd like to love a new book like they do.

If it isn't your thing, move on. I don't like abandoning books either, but I don't think reading something that is pure "yuck". Too many other books out there!!

How far into it are you? If it is the first 50-100 pages, I say keep going, it totally changes. If you're around page 150 and hate it, then I guess it just isn't your thing and you might as well move on.

Yikes. I have this one waiting at the library for me. Ok, now I'm getting leary about it.

I agree with everyone else. After the first 100 pages it should get easier for you. Even though I'll defend it from snarky reviewers, I can see why this book isn't suited for everyone. I tend to like darker fiction. Still, I was very anxious the entire time I was reading this book. Don't force yourself to finish reading something you don't like. Respect yourself and your tastes. That's the best advice one reader could give to another.

kathleen- I hope so!

katrina-you'll have to let me know!! you probably will like it since I am the only one who hasn't so far :)

raidergirl3-I guess you could check it out from the lib. if you hate it you haven't lost a thing! like I said though, everyone else loves it.

trish-i am still thinking that I will move on. It is not my thing. thanks for the advice friend :)

jen-I think I may try it again, but I don't think right now. I wish I could start it up in the "good" part and skip the beggining.

dar- you'll have to tell me how you like it!!! I tried, and I may try again at some point.

literatehousewife- I really like your advice. thanks reader friend.

jena- really, you almost quit too!?!?!

Oh man. Nothing is wrong with you, friend. I REALLY don't need a book to make me feel bad inside - I get enough of that elsewhere in my life!!

I just bought this book a couple of weeks ago but haven't started it yet. Didn't realize it was going to be that dark, but I've only heard good things about it.

Hello! I just found your link via RingSurf, Books & Blogs. Nice Site!

I'm 80 pgs or so into the novel and I believe that all of the writing, so far, is to set us up for a very interesting read!

You're a lover of books! Don't give up!
