feeling pressure

http://www.yogainlasvegas.com/images/stress_one.gif

I am feeling the pressure of my trigger happy self. Trigger happy as in clicking on the good 'ol mouse too much, therefore accepting and requesting too many books. I am treading water as I am gaining ARC's, RC's and joining too many book clubs, challenges and the like. I have been reading up a storm and will soon post more reviews of what I have been up to. I need to feel the
pile is a little more under control before spending time having fun, frolicking and gallivanting from blog to blog.

How are your piles doing?? Overwhelmed? or how are you able to control them...let me know if you have good pointers....always accepting help, for sure.

Yep, your post sums up how I'm feeling lately :)

OMG, that is so funny. Earlier today I googled for images using the search term "messy desk" to describe what my life has been like lately, but I didn't find anything nearly as good as yours. One of the things on my to-do list, by the way, is to write about the graphic novel you sent me. :-)

Now that work is back in session, I'm totally overwhelmed. I've got a pile of half written reviews and another stack of half read books and yet another stack of library books that are overdue and untouched. I'll be hoping you find the key so I'll have some help too!

Hola Bethany,

I'm awful at controlling To Be Read piles! Here's an example. Although I like to buy most of my books new, I checked out a bunch from the library recently to save money and space at home. I felt kind of proud of my great sacrifice for a week or so because I had only bought a couple of books in Spanish from the foreign language bookstore near my job. Then I discovered your Orbis Terrarum challenge and bought about six new paperbacks in one late-night splurge because I "needed" them for this great community reading endeavor. So much for the self-discipline. ¡Un saludo!

I wish I had some good pointers for you Bethany but I'm right behind you on this one. I've got 4 books to catch up on just to be kind of ok by the end of the month. To top it off I got hit with a migraine this morning-may not be doing too much reading today.

I'm feeling way overwhelmed myself. I do have this habit of always getting myself in just a little too deep, and now I've got a pile of books to read that simply can't wait. And I can never seem to balance the blogging and blog reading thing with the reading books thing. And no matter which I'm doing, I'm thinking maybe I should be doing the other (so then I just give up and watch the Olympics....oops). Ugh!

I hope it doesn't get to the point where it isn't enjoyable! That's the worst. I started to feel that way last December with my challenges but have been doing a pretty good of managing so far this year. I have only recently discovered ARCs, though, so not really a problem for me. I hope it gets better! We need another read-a-thon! :)

I have been feeling very much like you and I've been doing a few things to help myself:
1) I'm really getting critical of what I accept - and when I do accept, I let them know it might be a couple of months
2) I've decided that I'm going to read one book of my own choosing - that I bought or was a gift - each month, or until ARCs aren't piled sky high.
3) I've listed the ARCs I have in the order they were received as well as my monthly list of "chosen" books. For whatever reason, it doesn't look as bad in a spreadsheet. I'm marking things off as I go along.
4) October is going to be "I'm reading whatever the hell I want come hell or high water" month. I have that to look forward to, and it helps me focus on getting as many of my ARCs out the way. I do enjoy my ARCs, but unless I feel some sense of control, it's just too overwhelming. I hope that this helps!

I'm definitely feeling the same way. My stack of books to read/review is just under four feet tall and I despair of getting through it. I think that I'm going to have to stop accepting new books for a while.

me too. Tomorrow I am posting a picture of my TBR. And it's not even ALL the TBR.

I know what you mean. I've gotten 4 books this week alone. I'm a fast reader, but not that fast. I try to be selective about the books I get, too.

Well, I've become a lot more discerning in what I request. But I'm still backlogged! So I'm not reading as many blogs. I still have them in my Reader, I just don't seem to have the time to get around to them... :-(
